Geauga County Public Defender's Mission Statement

Our Mission

To uphold the Constitution by providing ethical and quality legal representation to our clients. Protecting rights and ensuring that justice is not determined by income, race, or circumstance.

About the Geauga County Public Defender's Office

What We Do

The Law Office of the Geauga County Public Defender provides legal representation to indigent people accused of criminal conduct that can result in a loss of freedom. We handle felonies, misdemeanors, delinquencies, juvenile traffic offenders and unruly conduct. We provide legal representation in child abuse, neglect and dependency cases. We also provide representation for some contempt cases. Eligibility for representation is determined by income.

The Geauga County Public Defender Office does not provide representation in any civil cases, including divorce, custody, and visitation. Public defenders will not give legal advice to non-clients.

The Geauga County Public Defender Office is overseen by a public defender commission comprised of attorneys and lay people appointed by the court and county commissioners.
